“In a world saturated with photographs of well known faces and anonymous people in the street, I choose to focus my camera on ordinary people who have a story to tell and have meaningful interactions with those in my photographs. In this way, the photograph is only one part of the story and the narrative behind it completes the picture.”
Wayne ‘Spike’ Large started his photographic journey way back in the 70s, covering events as a Regimental Photographer in the Army. After leaving the forces, he became a freelance photographer undertaking editorial, portrait, event, social documentary and scientific assignments. He spent his spare time documenting the UK punk scene in the 70s & 80s. He then embarked on a long and successful career in clinical healthcare.
During all that time, He never put his cameras down. Becoming the default ‘camera guy’ in his day-job and working on personal projects. Now with more time on his hands, He chooses to concentrate full time on what really drives him: using his photography to tell stories that really matter.
This site is all about showcasing highlights from a huge body of work accumulated over decades, whilst constantly updating and adding old, new and contemporary work.
He has contributed to exhibitions, books, magazines, websites and videos. He also has a permanent installation at a local hospital. Some of his work has been featured on TV and radio.
